Lucky Number 7

The Shuttlesport badminton academy hosted the ‘A’ ranking Shuttlesport Winter Invitational this past weekend. After plenty of hard work and dedication over the past few months the club were rewarded with 7 titles, several semi finalists & finalists, and a few more consolation wins added to the overall success. Clarence Liu playing in his first ‘A’ tournament played very well and put in a fine performance in winning the U12 Boys Doubles event. Alex Lim, who always seems to fare well on his home courts again had a successful tournament by winning the U16 Boys Singles & Mixed Doubles events. The final wins were particularly sweet for Alex as he had previously lost to both final opponents. Shuttlesport club won 4 of 5 of the U19 events. Leading the way was double winner Jacky Chan who won a hard fought singles final before teaming up with Alan Luk to defeat teammate Kevin Lim and partner James Ho(Surrey). Melinda Ng won the U19 Girl’s Singles event and without a doubt the most exciting match of the tournament was the U19 Mixed Doubles final where Kevin Lim and partner Helen Ip(Victoria) won the thrilling deciding game by a score of 28-26! All 4 players were literally shaking after the amazing final game that had the crowd oohing and aaaahing as the match came to a close. The only thing more successful than our juniors over the weekend was the cafeteria run by our legendary parents committee. Apparently the Teriyaki dogs belong in the hall of fame!
