Six members from the Shuttlesport Elite Team traveled to Calgary, Alberta to compete in an Alberta Series tournament. The team played very well in the 3 day event and captured 4 of the 5 individual events. Leading the team was RuiLin Huang, Melody Liang, and Alvin Lau as they won 2 events each. RuiLin Huang started it off by winning the Women’s Singles event by defeating Charmaine Reid of Ontario 21-9, 21-4 in a dominating performance. RuiLin then teamed up with Melody Liang to win the Women’s Doubles event by defeating Charmain Reid and Milaine Cloutier in 3 games tightly contested games. Melody Liang along with partner Alvin Lau then defeated an Alberta pair to win the Mixed Doubles event. Alvin Lau then completed his ‘double’ when he and rookie partner Jensen Ly went undefeated to win the Men’s Doubles event. Jensen, a newcomer to Shuttlesport won his first tournament at this level. ”Jensen has a very bright future ahead of him” said coach Al Mawani. “He works extremely hard and is always willing to learn” added Mawani.
