Melody Liang and partner Jon Vandervet of the Shuttlesport/Douglas College Badminton Academy won the BC Open. They defeated the #1 seeds Toby Ng and Grace Gao in 3 exciting games! Toby and Grace are currently ranked #19 in the world. Melody and Jon got stronger as the tournament went on and saved their best for the final! Coach Al Mawani said “this is the best this pair have played in the past 6 months, they both really supported each other throughout”. In other results, RuiLin Huang, in her comeback from injury, had an excellent tournament as she defeated the #2 seed, Phyllis Chan, in the semi finals before losing to the #1 seed Michelle Li in the final. “I feel with a couple more tournaments and few weeks of training she will be much stronger and faster” commented Mawani on RuiLin’s performance.
